Perched against a backdrop of the Pacific Coast, open bluffs and forested hills, Half Moon Bay is the most-visited coastal destination in the Bay Area, and one of only two California cities entirely within the Coastal Zone. The oldest town in San Mateo County, the city has a traditional Main Street-oriented downtown, and a unique agricultural heritage that is knit into the local culture and the economy.
Dyett & Bhatia is leading development of a new General Plan, Local Coastal Program and zoning regulations. Evaluation of existing conditions and development of Draft Guiding Principles has been completed, shaped by community engagement through a citywide mail-in survey, “community conversations,” stakeholder interviews, workshops and a MindMixer-based project website. Preservation and enhancement of the community’s scenic setting, natural environment, and small-town character, and increased circulation options are major community priorities.
